Caesarean Scar Therapy

A scar after C-section is a very special one
It carries the story of how your child came into this world. And at the same time there is still not enough information given to women on how C-section scar tissue can impact the whole body and how it's important to work with it. Scar tissue can affect posture, restrict movement, and even affect your digestion.
❋
Why is it so important to work with C-section scar?
Scar tissue is less functional. As your body heals after your caesarean surgery, scar tissue forms. Scar tissue is fibrotic, less stretchy and less mobile. Adhesions may form, sticking together layers under the skin. This tight scar tissue, and adhesion formation can create a ‘pouch’ or ‘overhang’. Adhesions can create discomfort or other symptoms.
❋
Scar tissue on your abdomen may cause changes you don’t always connect to your scar – from pulling sensations to digestion problems or back and hip pain. The good news is that these symptoms can improve, even years after surgery.
How can Scar Therapy help after caesarean birth?
reducing pulling, numbness, pain or sensitivity
improving movement (a scar can affect hips and back)
supporting digestion (bloating, constipation)
make your scar feel more soft and more flexible.
working on the diaphragm and improve breathing patterns
helping you feel connected, more confident and comfortable in your own body.
for many women, this work is not only about physical relief but also about meeting and honouring their birth story – sometimes for the very first time.
TESTIMONIALS
“Delighted I did Scar Therapy with Anna. It was wonderful to connect both physical and emotional needs and to set intentions moving forward. I definitely feel more connected to myself and my children after the sessions.”
“The sessions were so relaxing. Since the massage, my back pain has improved and I’ve regained sensation in the area. After having 2 C-sections within a short period of time, I decided to try scar work therapy to help with scar tissue build-up and back pain.”

Every scar has a story...
By working with the physical body, we're also touching the story that is hidden behind the scar. Giving yourself time to welcome the emotions is essential to heal and integrate our stories, or part of them. It's completely normal to not be ready to do this, even for many years. Once we're ready, then the time and opportunities will appear. Trust your timing.

Hello! I'm Anna

It's wonderful to see how this therapy supports my clients, both physically and emotionally.
After working with a client who had a C-section scar, I wanted to find out how I could help her better. I was really surprised at how much her scar was impacting her digestion.
This experience inspired me to dive deeper into Scar Therapy, and for the past two years, I've been specialising in helping women integrate their C-section scars both physically and emotionally.

FAQs
-
We can start working with scar tissue from 8 weeks post-surgery if there are no contraindications and scar is dry and fully healed.
C-section Scar Therapy should NOT be performed if you have any of the
following:> Open, weeping or oozing fluids
> Signs of infection
> Recent or suspected haematoma
> Seroma
>Scabs and open wounds
> Recent radiotherapy
> Recent fat transfer
> Pregnancy
If any of these conditions apply to you, please consult with your healthcare provider before receiving Scar Therapy.
-
Every story is individual. The recommendation when working with scar tissue is regular sessions - typically 4 weekly sessions. After this initial period, we assess where we are and how you're feeling.
For most of my clients, 4 sessions have been satisfying and brought the results they were looking for. At the beginning of our first session, we'll establish the goals for our work together, so the session is tailored specifically to your needs.
-
It depends what your main concern is about your scar. I can see that four sessions is the optimal period of time to feel a change and consolidate that change. Many times I see significant changes after just one session. So if for you it's one session or nothing, then I would definitely give it a try.
-
The overhang is created by tight scar tissue and adhesions underneath the skin. It's also common to feel numbness above your scar as well.
The first step when working with an overhang is to release tightness from this area and restore sensation. By doing this we create better tissue mobility and connection. This allows you to continue by strengthening the muscles properly.
The overhang often creates a disconnection, making it difficult to properly activate your core muscles. What I see from my clients is that the overhang can change.
-
Absolutely is worthy to give it a try. We can still help ease the symptoms (even with a 20-year-old scar), though the strategy will be different.
-
Ideally, we start within the first 16 weeks after birth whilst cellular activity in the scar is still high. While this is best from a physical body perspective, it's also valid to wait until you are emotionally ready, so you don't put extra pressure on yourself.
From 18-24 months, the scar is considered mature. However, we can still help ease the symptoms (even with a 20-year-old scar)
-
It depends on scar maturity and whether there are other scar tissues on the abdomen from previous surgeries. The typical duration is a 60-minute session.
75-minute sessions are recommended when there are more scar tissues on the abdomen (appendix removal, gallbladder surgery, any keyhole surgeries). We can also do longer sessions to include neck and shoulder massage.
A 75-minute session is also recommended for first sessions.
If you know that your birth story still carries a lot of emotions, please book a longer session, so you'll be held in this process to safely meet your story, without rushing yourself. If you don't feel ready to work with your scar, you can book a massage session - holistic relaxation or shiatsu first. Some of my clients find this was easier for them to start this way.
